Summary:
Looking for a minister interested in working with junior and senior high youth to develop them spiritually via Biblical teaching, one on one mentoring and participation in a variety of evangelistic and service oriented programs. Willing to work with church leaders, parents and youth volunteers to develop an environment where teens are encouraged and given the opportunity to find and develop their God given gifts to His glorification.
Responsibilities:
- Develop a ministry for one on one mentoring of youth (spiritual development)
- Work closely with the youth ministry Deacon and other involved church members
- Work with church education team to develop a comprehensive Biblical education program for junior and senior high school students
- Develop confidentiality policy (what will and will not be shared with parents)
- Encourage relationships between older (mature) and younger teens
- Identify and develop youth leaders
- Organize/Teach Sunday and Wednesday teen classes
- Teach Sunday night teen evangelistic Bible studies
- Develop a 24x7 availability plan for teen crisis/emergencies
- Plan “Outreach” activities for teens (fun activities to invite friends)
- Plan community and church service activities for teens
- Visit teen’s homes and schools
- Support teen’s “after school” extracurricular activities
- Encourage and promote Christian education (plan visits to Christian colleges)
- Attend out of town youth retreats and rallies (4+ per year)
- Plan activities that include both parents and teens (4+ per year)
- Plan activities with other local Church youth groups
- Plan community outreach programs/activities
- Plan special activities for teens during summer vacation (take advantage of extra time off school)
- Organize/Plan/Sponsor camp week
- Develop a budget covering youth ministry operating costs.
- Be closely involved in the Northland men’s spiritual development ministry
Communication and Congregational Exposure:
- Provide weekly activity updates for Church bulletin
- Hold regular communication meetings with parents
- Work with Parents of Teens group
- Provide “Calendar/Newsletter/Handout/WebSite” to facilitate communication
- Deliver Sunday Morning Message at least 4 times per year (in pulpit minister's absence, Graduation Sunday, and etc.)
- Work with Sunday morning ministry team
Education and Experience:
- Degree from a Christian college (preferable)
- 2+ years education in ministry training
- 2+ years experience as youth minister (preferable)
Skills and Qualifications:
- Must develop an “open” and ”accountability” relationship with appointed leaders and show desire to be held to the highest Biblical standards of conduct
- Able to work with Elders and church leadership as it relates to the youth ministry
- Able to set and meet short and long term goals
- Able to schedule and plan 3-4 months in advance
- Must have good communications skills
- Able to promote parent involvement
- Able to relate to challenges of today’s youth (up on new technology)
- Able to promote and accept input from youth group
Nice to Have:
- Interest in sports, athletic
- Able to lead singing, interest in music
- Commercial Drivers License (Licensed to drive Church bus)
Congregation's Responsibilities to Youth Minister:
- Elders and Parents to give support
- Support (pay for) continuing education
- Help minister set and guard his “private time”
